An emergence protocol prevents the spread of infection between individuals from staying in a given area. The lockdown protocol usually allows essential supplies such as pharmacies, hospitals, banks, and grocery shops and shut down of all nonessential activities throughout the period. Around the world, most of the countries including India, America, China, Italy, and Spain are implementing the lockdown protocol to control the spread of COVID-19. Even the WHO recommends the strict lockdown protocol to fight against the COVID-19.

Advantages of Lockdown

Pandemic life has improved relations with family, nature, self-health
First, the positives. A majority of respondents (62%) felt that their relations with family members had improved since the lockdown. Engagement with nature increased for most and so did concern for personal health. Post-millennial respondents were more likely to report an improvement on these two counts, the survey data showed.

Nostalgia for the pre-covid life was clear among urban Indians. Nearly everyone said they had missed some aspect of social life during the lockdown. Meeting with friends and family topped this list, but more than 40% respondents also reported missing going to work or college. The older generation, or pre-millennials, were more likely than post-millennials to miss social gatherings with friends and family. This generation was also more likely to miss travel and going on vacations.

Social distancing outbreak of an infectious disease
Social distancing also called as physical distancing is a non-pharmaceutical intervention or measures undertaken to prevent the spread of contagious diseases by reducing the close contact between the individual. It typically involves avoid of gathering and maintaining a physical distance from each others. This could be, one of the best way of controlling the spread of disease in the absence of available pharmaceutical remedies. The reason behind the social distancing is to reduce the outbreak of an infectious disease. Epidemiologists quantify the intensity of outbreak of COVID-19 using Ro number, unlike SARS pandemic in 2003, H1N1 influenza in 2009, and Ebola in 2014

Online classes
As lockdown continuous, online classes have surged in popularity and most of the universities and colleges across the globe are continuing their classes through online to help the students. It is reported that till April 17, 2020, more than 2, 23, 930 online classes on various subjects have been conducted, and these are attended by students in an average of 144,431/day. In addition to that, various online courses are conducted and researchers are published more than 2823 research and review papers and books.

Work from home
To ensure the continuity of business, most of the IT and BPO company employees are continuing their work from home.

We are learning to exercise indoors and enjoy exercise because we have time!
Exercise has suddenly become a “no-brainer” and we are all understanding that increasing the strength of the immune system and the lungs is paramount. With all this time, we have now lost the “I have no time to exercise” excuse! We are also learning to use the power of technology to work out and smaller areas without the need of gyms or expensive equipment inside our own homes.

24 × 7 helpline
To tackle the complaints and problems faced by citizens, the government has provided helpline number.

Lockdown reduces air pollution
The study was based on the hypothesis that lockdowns are linked to lower levels of air pollution during February and March 2020. Satellites imagery provided data on the global air pollution levels, and ground measurements were derived from 10,000 air quality stations, adjusting for variations in local and global weather conditions.

The changes in various air pollutants over time were then examined with relation to the reduction, if any, in the number of premature deaths and new cases of childhood asthma compared to the expected incidence.

The importance of family, friends and community.
One of the most significant things to come out of this reset is the importance of our loved ones – family, friends and the people in our local and wider communities. The importance of a hug, a handshake, a high five! Parties, gatherings, nights out at the pub! Visiting our loved ones in hospital. We have become more aware and grateful of our keyworkers such as the people who work in the NHS in all capacities, who work in all our care sectors, our engineers, transport drivers, construction workers, shop keepers….the list goes on and on. This new appreciation of the people in our life will enhance all our relationships when life is back to normal, hopefully with the knock on effect of more peace and harmony across the globe.

Lockdown given environmental changes to the Country
To reduce the spread of novel coronavirus, most of the countries across the globe adopted lockdown. This action has put automobiles, trains, planes, and major industrial activity on hold. Due to this, unparalleled decrease in air pollution is being noticed in most of the countries During lockdown, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) of India, air quality index was improved up to 90% in major cities of India including Delhi, Mumbai, and North India's many industrial areas. A recent study reported that China has found a big relief in anthropogenic pollution emission which results in a 25% reduction in carbon mission and a 30% reduction in NO2 level during lockdown. he WHO reports that more than 90% of the global population are living in the area where the quality of air is below the guideline level. An ambient air pollution kills nearly 7 million people annually across the globe, and majority of the deaths are in China and India. An increase in NO2 has linked to various diseases including respiratory

Disadvantage of Lockdown

The lockdown period was full of challenges and each of us reacted to it differently. Difficulties and challenges covered a wide spectrum and can be categorised into four groups;

  1. problems related to work,
  2. problems related to lockdown,
  3. difficulties due to the family situation, and,
  4. personal wellbeing and financial issues.

The study team also found that there were overlaps in the categories; between work-related problems and family (such as work-life balance); and when lockdown-related problems were mixed with personal issues. There were also some people according to whom there were no difficulties. An example of the lack of work-life balance from someone who lives with her partner (with no children) who stated: "I am working the whole day and I am not working the whole day: I deal with other things.”

There were some whose days also became fuzzy but were not bothered by this mess because their life is always like this anyway. Those who prefer to separate work from family and private life suffered because there was not enough space for them, but the house chores and the children also played a big role in their frustration. A father said, “the householding tasks distracted me from my work” meaning that he helped (or had to help) his wife. However, this was not always the case. The gender roles differed a lot. An example from another father with older children emphasised that the moment his wife started working from home, he started going to the office because “The goal was not to be at home at the same time. Many memes were about ‘how good, we are together, we can talk more’ but I rather decreased this amount of time”.
